B&W Manufacturing adds to their Shades of Elegance™ collection a high quality line of solar window coverings called Siesta Mylar Shades. You can beat the heat and protect your furniture from harmful sun rays with these fantastic mylar shades. With Siesta™ Mylar Shades (Grey/Silver color) 90% of the sun´s heat is kept out of your house! 63% is reflected outside and 27% is absorbed into the shade.
Spring tension control is standard but at no additional charge you can opt for their reliable clutch lift system for the really large shades.
Mylar shades are different color, very thin sheets of dyed laminated mylar that's been heat pressed to form a single piece of material that is durable and transparent. The first color tells you the color inside the house, the second color is the middle layer and the last color is the color to the outside. When silver is listed as the last color that means the material has a silver reflective backing which provides greater solar and UV protection.

& Laminators Definitions
Total Solar Transmittance
The ratio of the amount of
total solar energy in the full solar
wavelength range (300-2,100 nanometers)
that is allowed to pass through a
glazing system to the amount of total
solar energy falling on that glazing
system. Value is usually expressed as a
percent.
Total Solar
Reflectance
The ratio of total solar
energy which is reflected outward by the
glazing system to the amount of total
solar energy falling on the glazing
system. On filmed windows this
reflectance is a function of the side of
the film facing the window surface.
Value is usually expressed as a percent.
Total Solar Absorption
The ratio of the amount of
total solar energy absorbed by a glazing
system to the amount of total solar
energy falling on the glazing system.
Solar absorption is that portion of
total solar energy neither transmitted
nor reflected. Since solar transmittance
and solar reflectance are measured
directly, the following equation should
be used in calculating solar absorption.
Solar absorption =1.00 - (solar
transmittance) - (solar reflectance)
Visible Light Transmittance
The ratio of the amount of
total visible solar energy (380-780
nanometers) that is allowed to pass
through a glazing system to the amount
of total visible solar energy falling on
the glazing system. Value is usually
expressed as a percent. Glare is
influenced by visible light
transmittance through a glazing system.
Ultraviolet (UV) Transmittance
The ratio of the amount of
total UV solar energy (300-380
nanometers) that is allowed to pass
through a glazing system to the amount
of total UV solar energy falling on the
glazing system. Ultra-violet is one
portion of the total solar energy
spectrum which greatly contributes to
fading and deterioration of fabric and
furnishings.
Shading Coefficient (SC)
The ratio of the solar heat
gain through a given glazing system to
the solar heat gain under the same
conditions for clear, un-shaded double
strength window glass (DSA). Shading
coefficient defines the sun control
capability or efficiency of the glazing
system.
Total Solar Energy Rejected
The percent of incident solar
energy rejected by a glazing system
equals solar reflectance plus the part
of solar absorption which is reradiated
outward.
We are proud to offer B&W Manufacturing's newest addition to their high quality line of window coverings - MYLAR SHADES. Siesta™ Mylar Solar Roller Shades allow you to cut the glare, protect your furniture, and keep the view.
TAME THE SUN!
With Siesta™ Shades (Grey/Silver color) 90% of the sun´s heat is kept out of your house! 63% is reflected outside and 27% is absorbed into the shade.
SEE THE DIFFERENCE
The left side of this window is unprotected from direct sun. The right side is the view protected with Siesta Shades™. Beat the heat and protect your furniture from harmful sun rays with these fantastic mylar shades.
This chart shows how much of the sun´s heat is kept out of your house by Siesta™ Mylar Shades. Up to 90% of the heat is kept out!
All Horizons™ Siesta Mylar Shades are available with either Spring Roller or Clutch Roller Controls. The choice is your -- and it’s no extra charge either way!
Spring Roller:
The Spring Roller is the classic, time-tested, cordless operating system for roller shades. You simply grasp the shade by its bottom hem and pull it down to whatever length you want. A gently tug releases the spring´s lock and allows the shade to be gently raised.
Clutch Roller:
The Clutch Roller system is operated by an easy chain control. Pull the front chain to raise the shade; pull the back chain to lower it; and a constant tension clutch stops the shade wherever you want it to stop. The Clutch system is also know for easier operation on larger sized shades.
• Minimum Shade Width: 12"
• Minimum Shade Length: 144"
• Maximum Shade Width: 12"
• Maximum Shade Length: 120"
• Min. inside Shallow Mount Depth: 3/4"
• Min. inside Flush Mount Depth: 2-1/2"
• Min. outside mounting surface: 3/4"
• Standard Spring Control shades will have up to a 5/8" inch light gap on each side on inside mount shades.
• Shades using the Clutch Lift System will have a 3/4" light gap on each side on inside mount shades.
• Depending on the type of hardware selected (Spring or Clutch) the fabric will have 1" to 1-1/4" deducted from the width of the fabric on outside mount shades.
It is recommended that you add 1-1/2" to 2" of overlap on each side for ultimate light and privacy control.
• Siestas wider than 72" and longer than 64" will have a visible seam.
• Maximum Normal Size: 72" wide by 120" high.
• When railroaded the maximum size is 144" wide by 64" high.
The chart above is a factory deduction chart plus or minus 1/8" of an inch. If you order a shade that is 56" wide and choose IM (inside mount) as the mounting style - the factory will deduct an 1/8" of an inch from the tip-to-tip measurements so the roller ends fit into the brackets. Then the factory will deduct 5/8" of an inch from the roller/barrel so it does not rub against the brackets and then they will deduct 1-1/8" inches (TOTAL) from the width of the fabric so that it covers the roll but also does not rub against the brackets.
Due to hardware requirements there are significant light gaps at the edge of all roller shades when ordered as Inside Mount. This is so the fabric does not rub along the brackets during operation.
Spring Roller Shades
There is a 5/8" gap on each side.
Clutch Roller
There is a 3/4" light gap on each side.
To avoid these light gaps it is recommended that you consider an outside mount unless there is a window frame or trim covering/blocking the light gaps.
Shallow Mount
Shallow mount blinds are installed inside the window casing where there's enough room to install the brackets but there is not enough room for the blind to be installed fully within the window frame and so part of the blind/headrail will protrude from the window frame.
Flush Mount
Flush mount is when the blind is mounted completely within the window frame and no part of the headrail/blind protrudes from the window frame.
