Features & Benefits
Astragal Molding --> Standard
Astragal molding is a strip of molding used to cover the the gap between a pair of panels where the two panels meet in the center i.e. when the shutter is closed. It also helps hide the fact that your window opening may not be perfectly square.
Enlarge the two pictures below - the picture on the left doesn't have astragal molding - see the light gap in the center where the two panels meet? The picture on the right has astragal molding - no light gap.

With
Astragal Molding
Normandy™ Basswood Shutters are built using select basswood and hardwoods - the tight grain results in long-term stability and durability. Normandy™ basswood shutters are then hand sanded and finished five times to create a luxurious furniture quality finish.
Reinforced engineered stile
A well-crafted shutter closes solidly, does not have light gaps, and stays that way year in and year out. To accomplish this, each part of the shutter must resist twisting, bowing, cupping and all other forms of instability.
Normandy Basswood Shutters use a reinforced engineered stile -- Multiple layers of wood bonded together to reinforce durability to the core of the stile, which results in a robust support system for your shutter panel.
Traditional mortise and tenon
Traditionally used in demanding furniture
and building construction, mortise and tenon
joints are designed to withstand decades of
shear and racking stress and ensure user and
occupant safety. The joint is crafted out of
a mortise cut through the wood and a hearty
tenon, which fits into the mortise.

Panel Configurations
Note: Many of the panel configurations below require the use of a T-Post (represented by T) which is a vertical post inserted into the shutter frame. In large openings where there are several windows divided by some kind of vertical post or mullion. T-Posts enable you to configure the shutter to match the existing window design. T-Posts provide added strength to wide shutter frames and T-Posts provide extra spacing between the louvers and window when the louvers are tilted in the full “view through” position.

Three Louver Sizes
Louver size can dramatically change the style from traditional to contemporary as larger louver sizes are used. Our attractive elliptical shaped louvers have rounded edges (not square) for perfect closure. The larger the louver the better the view out when the louvers are tilted to maximum "view through" position. We suggest keeping louver sizes consistent throughout your home or office.
Cafe Style Shutters
Cafe shutters, sometimes called "half shutters" normally cover the bottom half of your window, but can be made at any height. Please specify the height of the cafe shutter, NOT the window height. Cafe Shutters are designed to cover the bottom half of the window for increased privacy while allowing light into the room.
Frame Styles
Deco Frames - Outside Mount
Deco Frames are a nice addition to give a shutter a consistent look, especially when there is not an existing windowsill or trim. Deco frames come with pre-drilled holes and can be installed with screws that will be hidden under the inserts.
Important Measuring Tip
Add 2-5/8" to each side of the window opening to ensure that the frame is made wide enough so that no part of the frame extends into the window opening. If mounting over existing molding measure edge of molding to edge of molding.

2" Bel Air
Z-Frame
Z-Frames
Are both an inside and outside mounted frame because part of the frame installs within the window opening with a decorative edge that rests on the outside wall or trim. Z-frames are used in mounting the shutter system inside a sheetrock or out of square window openings. The lip of the frame hides any irregularities in the shape of the opening.
Deco frames come with pre-drilled holes and can be installed with screws that will be hidden under the inserts.
Important Measuring Tip
You need at least 1-1/2" of mounting depth just for the frame. You then must consider louver size and required depth for each.
Beaded L-Frame - Outside Mount
L-Frames are used to mount shutters outside the window jamb or more commonly on french doors. The edge of the L-frame usually aligns with the window edge. Under situations where there is molding around the window, L frame can be mounted on the outside edge of the molding or on top of the molding.
Important Measuring Tip
Add 1-1/2" to each side of the window opening to ensure that the frame is made wide enough so that the frame doesn't extend into the window opening. If mounting over existing molding measure edge of molding to edge of molding.
Hanging Strip - Inside mount
Are used to eliminate the need for framing and is most often used on windows with a recess or window sill. Hanging Strips hide the attachment of the panels to the wall, giving you a clean, uniformed look to your shutters.
Note: The one negative about hanging-strips is that they prevent the operation of tilt-in windows. While the hanging strips are easy to remove - you will have to do so when you tilt-in your windows for cleaning.
An innovative frame design for easier installation. Hang strip comes with pre-drilled holes and can be installed with screws that will be hidden under the inserts.
Divider Rails
Divider Rail
A horizontal bar that separates the bottom section of louvers from the top section of louvers in the same shutter. This provides greater stability and flexibility over privacy and light control by allowing separate operation of the louvers above and below the divider rail.
Required on panels that are greater than 72" long. The default location is at the center of the panel.
