Features & Benefits

Built around the concept of modern convenience, Woodlore is made of composite wood derived from well managed forests, finished with a polypropylene coating that prevents moisture absorption. It resists cupping, warping, twisting and allows for easy stain removal.

Reinforced engineered stile

Reinforced engineered stile
A well-crafted shutter closes solidly, does not have light gaps, and stays that way year in and year out. To accomplish this, each part of the shutter must resist twisting, bowing, cupping and all other forms of instability.

Norman's is the only shutter manufacturer to compensate this tendency to deform, by using reinforced engineered wood. We employ a procedure that bonds multiple layers of wood together with pressure, heat, and a proprietary chemical formulation. This imparts an intense level of stability to the cores of our stiles and results in a robust support system for your shutter panels. This is a more costly process compared to using a solid piece of wood, but Norman's doesn't believe that stability should be compromised at any cost.

To inhibit deformation, bonding multiple layers of wood together with pressure, heat, and a proprietary chemical formulation creates the core of Norman Shutters’ engineered, reinforced stile.

Astragal Molding --> Standard
Astragal molding is a strip of molding used to cover the the gap between a pair of panels where the two panels meet in the center i.e. when the shutter is closed. It also helps hide the fact that your window opening may not be perfectly square.

Astragal Molding

Enlarge the two pictures below - the picture on the left doesn't have astragal molding - see the light gap in the center where the two panels meet? The picture on the right has astragal molding - no light gap.

A Solid Composite Wood Core
Solid core and thick louvers prevent problems associated with hollow shutters. Withstands temps over 140° F without warping. Reduced environmental impact (does not utilize/impact old-growth forests or harmful chemicals)

A Solid Composite Wood Core
tension rod system

Our tension rod system runs the entire width of the shutter panel through the louvers. This prevents stripping of the tension screw, and cracking of the louver and ensures a tight closure. Streamlined appearance. Stainless steel fasteners - Limit corrosion and resist loosening.

recessed magnets

The beauty of our magnets is that you can’t see them. with recessed magnets, your shutter panels will close tightly for a clean and streamlined appearance.

We also help homeowners avoid one of the most bothersome experiences of shutter ownership: staple failure. Staples that hold the tilt rod to the louvers can become dislodged over time. Our product engineers designed a system that we’re so proud of that we guarantee it will never disappoint.

Norman Shutters uses stainless steel staples that are longer than the industry standard, affixed with friction-actuated glue.

Panel Configurations

Note: Many of the panel configurations below require the use of a T-Post (represented by T) which is a vertical post inserted into the shutter frame. In large openings where there are several windows divided by some kind of vertical post or mullion. T-Posts enable you to configure the shutter to match the existing window design. T-Posts provide added strength to wide shutter frames and T-Posts provide extra spacing between the louvers and window when the louvers are tilted in the full “view through” position.

Four Louver Sizes

Louver size can dramatically change the style from traditional to contemporary as larger louver sizes are used. Our attractive elliptical shaped louvers have rounded edges (not square) for perfect closure. It's common practice to use smaller louvers for smaller windows and larger louvers for large windows. The larger the louver the better the view out when the louvers are tilted to maximum "view through" position. We suggest keeping louver sizes consistent throughout your home or office.

  • For inside mounted shutters make sure you have enough sill depth for the louvers to operate properly. For louver sizes 1-7/8" thru 3-1/2" you need 1-1/2" of mounting depth for an inside mount and for a 4-1/2" louver you'd want at least 2-3/4" of mounting depth.

Multiple louver sizes: 1-7/8", 2-1/2", 3-1/2" and 4-1/2"

Cafe Style Shutters
Cafe Style Shutters

Cafe shutters, sometimes called "half shutters" normally cover the bottom half of your window, but can be made at any height. Please specify the height of the cafe shutter, NOT the window height. Cafe Shutters are designed to cover the bottom half of the window for increased privacy while allowing light into the room.

Deco Frame

Deco Frames - Outside Mount
Deco Frames are a nice addition to give a shutter a consistent look, especially when there is not an existing windowsill or trim. Deco frames come with pre-drilled holes and can be installed with screws that will be hidden under the inserts.

Important Measuring Tip
Add 2-5/8" to each side of the window opening to ensure that the frame is made wide enough so that no part of the frame extends into the window opening. If mounting over existing molding measure edge of molding to edge of molding.

Z-Frames
Are both an inside and outside mounted frame because part of the frame installs within the window opening with a decorative edge that rests on the outside wall or trim.

Z-frames are used in mounting the shutter system inside a sheetrock or out of square window openings. The lip of the frame hides any irregularities in the shape of the opening.

Deco frames come with pre-drilled holes and can be installed with screws that will be hidden under the inserts.

Important Measuring Tip
You need at least 1-1/2" of mounting depth just for the frame. You then must consider louver size and required depth for each.

Beaded L-Frame

Beaded L-Frame - Outside Mount
L-Frames are used to mount shutters outside the window jamb or more commonly on french doors. The edge of the L-frame usually aligns with the window edge. Under situations where there is molding around the window, L frame can be mounted on the outside edge of the molding or on top of the molding.

Important Measuring Tip
Add 1-1/2" to each side of the window opening to ensure that the frame is made wide enough so that the frame doesn't extend into the window opening. If mounting over existing molding measure edge of molding to edge of molding.

Hanging Strips

Hanging Strip - Inside mount
Are used to eliminate the need for framing and is most often used on windows with a recess or window sill. Hanging Strips hide the attachment of the panels to the wall, giving you a clean, uniformed look to your shutters.

Note: The one negative about hanging-strips is that they prevent the operation of tilt-in windows. While the hanging strips are easy to remove - you will have to do so when you tilt-in your windows for cleaning.

An innovative frame design for easier installation. Hang strip comes with pre-drilled holes and can be installed with screws that will be hidden under the inserts.

Divider Rails
Divider Rail

Divider Rail
A horizontal bar that separates the bottom section of louvers from the top section of louvers in the same shutter. This provides greater stability and flexibility over privacy and light control by allowing separate operation of the louvers above and below the divider rail.

Required on panels that are greater than 72" long. The default location is at the center of the panel.

Delivery times are affected by the distance between the manufacturing facility and where your order is to be shipped.

Oversize orders also add to delivery times as they may require shipping by a common carrier (i.e. trucking lines) which can extend the delivery date by several days.
